The Canada Council for the Arts is Canada’s national public arts funder. The Council champions and invests in artistic excellence so that Canadians may enjoy and participate in a rich cultural life. In 2015-16 the Council allocated $157.4 million dollars towards artistic creation and innovation through grants, prizes and payments.

The, Writers’ Trust of Canadais a charitable organization that seeks to advance, nurture and celebrate Canadian writers and writing. Founded in 1976 by Margaret Atwood, Pierre Burton, Graeme Gibson, Margaret Laurence and David Young.

The Writers’ Union of Canada, founded in 1973 and now over 2,000 members strong, is the national organization of professionally published book authors.
